Privacy policy
This page explains what we collect when you use YourWeddingAbroad.com, why, who sees it, how long we keep it and how to get it changed or deleted. We’ve kept it short and plain.
YourWeddingAbroad.com is run by Your Wedding Abroad (ABN 14 209 897 137), Australia (“we”, “us”). Questions or requests: hello@yourweddingabroad.com.
1. The short version
- You can use the calculator and read every guide without an account.
- We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
- Analytics cookies are off until you click Accept. If you click Decline, we only count the page view, with nothing that identifies you.
- If you make an account, we keep what you save so you can come back to it. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
2. What we collect
If you just browse (no account)
- Visit counts. Until you choose, and if you click Decline, each count has no ID at all. It records the page, the button used, the destination you’re looking at, your country and device type, and roughly where you came from (for example, a search engine, or which AI assistant sent you). If you use the destination search, it also records what you typed. Nothing links one page to the next.
- If you click Accept on “Analytics cookies?”, we also keep:
- an anonymous ID (a random number in your browser’s storage) so your visits link up, and a session ID for this visit;
- how you first found us (the first page, the referring site and any campaign tags);
- Google Analytics, with advertising features off.
- When you open a vendor’s website or WhatsApp from our list: which vendor, the vendor’s badges at that moment, the type of link, the page, and your plan as a guest count, the services ticked and a budget band. No name or contact details.
- Technical details to keep the site safe. Your IP address is used briefly to stop spam and abuse (for example, too many form sends in a minute) and is stored only as a scrambled code that can’t be turned back into the address. For a planner review, a scrambled code of your IP address and of your network is kept with the review, so we can spot fake reviews. We never record your IP address, name, email or phone number in analytics. We also log visits from known search and AI crawlers (the page, the crawler’s name and its country), which are not people.
- If you ask us to email you when a new destination launches: your email, the destination, the page you were on and the website that sent you to it. If you’ve clicked Accept, also how you first found us (the first page and any campaign tags). A launch alert is used for that one email only.
- If you report a price: what you tell us, the link you add (if any) and your email (if you give it, so we can reply).
If you make an account (couples)
- Your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google.
- What you save: calculator searches (up to 3), style boards and their share links, your vendor shortlist, and your wedding journal (including amounts, notes, dates and the ratings you give vendors).
- Clicks to vendors: when you click through to a vendor’s website or WhatsApp from our site.
- Planner reviews you write: your stars, your review and your wedding month. Reviews are public and published straight away; your name and email are never shown or shared with the planner (see “How reviews work”).
- If you accepted analytics before signing up, your earlier anonymous visits are linked to your account.
- Amounts and notes from your wedding journal are never put into analytics.
If you list a business (vendors)
- Your business name, your name, category, area, website, Instagram, WhatsApp number, the email you sign in with and the short description you write.
- The vendors you recommend, and your private notes about them.
- Your agreement to our listing terms (the version and the time you agreed).
- Your listing’s statistics (how often it’s shown, clicked and saved).
- If you contact us and we link your account to your listing, we record that link and when it was made.
Businesses recommended by other vendors
When a vendor lists their business, they may recommend other local wedding businesses and give us that business’s name, category, website, Instagram handle or WhatsApp number. We use these details only to check the business and to contact it about being listed. Contact details such as WhatsApp numbers are seen only by our team and are never shown on the website. A business recommended by a planner may be listed using its public details (name, area, website or Instagram) and its website’s own preview image. If that’s your business and you’d rather not be listed, use Remove my listing on the For vendors page, or email hello@yourweddingabroad.com, and we’ll remove it once we’ve confirmed it’s you. To check, we keep the business you named and the WhatsApp number or email you give us, seen only by our team; if you chose email, we send you a copy of your request.
3. Why we use it
- To run the site: calculations, saving your plans, sign-in, share links and your wedding journal.
- To show vendors fairly: listing, ordering and badges as explained in “How this list is ordered”.
- To improve the guides and tools: which pages and options are used most, in total.
- To give listed vendors their Metrics: in totals only, for example “couples searching for venues this month planned A$8,000–14,000”, or how many clicks went to venues. Vendors never see who you are, your journal, your notes or which couple did what. Figures based on couples’ searches only show when at least 10 couples are counted.
- To keep the site safe: stopping spam, abuse and fake listings.
- To contact you about your account or listing: for example, a sign-in link or a question about your listing. We don’t send marketing emails unless you’ve asked for them.
We don’t use your data to make automated decisions that have a significant effect on you. Vendor order and badges follow the published rules in “How this list is ordered”.
4. Cookies and similar storage
- Needed: to keep you signed in and remember your cookie choice. These are always on.
- Analytics (only after Accept): our own anonymous ID, and Google Analytics (GA4). Google Analytics is set with advertising features off. You can change your choice at any time with in the footer, or by clearing your browser data.
5. Who we share it with
We don’t sell or rent your data. We use these services to run the site, and they handle data only on our instructions:
| Service | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, accounts and stored images | Japan (Tokyo) |
| Netlify | Hosting the website and its server functions | Global network, United States |
| Resend | Sending sign-in and account emails, and receiving email sent to hello@yourweddingabroad.com | United States |
| Sign in with Google (if you choose it); Google Analytics (only after Accept) | United States and other locations |
Vendors you click through to get your visit as a normal website visit, plus anything you choose to send them yourself. If the law requires it, we may have to share data with authorities.
Because these services are outside Australia, your data may be stored or processed overseas. We choose providers that protect data to a standard similar to the Australian Privacy Principles.
6. How long we keep it
- Analytics events and crawler visits: 13 months, then deleted. After that we keep only daily totals (counts per page, channel, country and device). Google Analytics keeps its data for 14 months.
- Launch-alert emails: until the launch email is sent.
- Spam and abuse checks: the scrambled IP codes are kept only as long as the limit they check (minutes to hours).
- Planner reviews: kept with their scrambled IP and network codes, also after a review is removed (with the reason, as our record of what we removed and why). Ask us to delete yours at any time.
- Price reports: kept with our price-check records.
- Removal requests: kept as our record of what we removed and why, so a removed business isn’t added again.
- Your account and what you’ve saved: until you delete it or ask us to.
- Vendor listings and recommendations: while the listing is active, and removed on request.
- Emails we’ve sent about your listing: kept with the listing record, so we can see what was asked.
7. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- correct it;
- delete your account and everything saved in it;
- remove a business listing or a recommended business’s details (you can also use Remove my listing).
Email hello@yourweddingabroad.com. We’ll reply within 30 days and may need to confirm it’s you first. If you’re in the EU or UK, you also have the rights given by the GDPR, including the right to object and to complain to your local data protection authority.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, tell us first. In Australia you can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
8. Keeping it safe
- Encryption: data is encrypted on its way to and from the site.
- Access rules: the database lets each person read only their own data. Admin access is limited to the site owner, and their email account uses two-step sign-in.
- No passwords: we don’t store passwords. Sign-in works by email link or Google.
No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we’ll tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
9. Children
The site is for couples planning a wedding and isn’t meant for anyone under 18. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For big changes, we’ll also let account holders know by email.
