The guest count changes catering most. Venue hire, photography and the celebrant cost about the same whether 20 people come or 100.

Where does the money go?
For a typical 50-guest wedding, venue hire is the biggest single cost, followed by flowers and decor, then catering.

The venue figure rests on one planner’s published list, so treat it as a guide rather than a market rate. We’re adding venue sources as vendors send us their prices.
How much is a Bali wedding per guest?
At typical prices, about A$310 per guest for 50 guests. Per-guest cost falls as the guest list grows, because the venue, photographer and celebrant cost the same however many people come:
- 20 guests: about A$620 each
- 50 guests: about A$310 each
- 100 guests: about A$200 each
Catering alone runs A$37–74 per guest (IDR 460,000–918,000) for dinner.
What’s not included in these prices?
Our totals cover the five core parts of the day. Budget separately for:
- A wedding planner, if you use one
- Drinks and alcohol, usually priced per guest for a set number of hours
- Hair and makeup, cake, music, lighting and sound
- Legal paperwork at home, if you sign your legal marriage there (most couples do)
- A village (banjar) fee, only for a party at a private villa or house, and often included in the villa price. Hotels and venues pay their own
- Transport on the day, and flights and accommodation for you and your guests
Most Bali vendors we checked include tax in their prices. The exception is hotels and resorts, which often list prices with “++”, meaning tax and service are added on top. Our venue hire figures come from a “++” price list, so expect the final venue cost to be higher than the figure shown. What’s in a Bali wedding package, and what costs extra?
Should we hire a venue or a whole private villa?
A venue (a hotel chapel, clifftop, garden or beach club) is usually cheaper for the day itself. Hiring a whole private villa costs more but gives you exclusive use and somewhere to stay.
- Venue hire: typical A$7,100 for the ceremony space and set-up. Many hotels charge the reception as a minimum spend on food and drink, which our catering line covers.
- Private villa: about A$11,800 for the whole property for 2 nights plus an event fee, from one villa’s published 2026 rate. Food is extra. Villas often require more nights at weekends.
With a villa as the venue, a typical 50-guest wedding comes to about A$19,300.
How can we keep the cost down?
- Trim the guest list. Catering is the cost that grows fastest with guests.
- Look at weekdays. Several venues publish lower weekday prices or shorter minimum stays.
- Consider the wet season. One planner’s 2026 budget guide quotes 20–30% wet-season discounts. Ask each vendor directly.
- Check for “++” on hotel and resort quotes. Compare every quote with tax and service included.
- Spend where it matters to you. Use the calculator to put more into photography, say, and less into decor, and see the total change.
- Check quotes against these ranges. A quote well above our high figure deserves a question.
How much deposit do Bali vendors ask for?
The vendors that publish their terms ask for 50% to book, with the balance due about 60 days before the wedding. Ask each vendor, as terms vary. Villas may also ask for a refundable security deposit. Always get the cancellation terms in writing.

Is A$20,000 enough for a Bali wedding?
At typical published prices, yes for up to 100 guests: A$19,600 covers venue hire, dinner, flowers, photography and a celebrant. At 50 guests the typical total is A$15,400, leaving about A$4,600 for a planner, drinks and extras. A private villa or premium resort can push you past it.
Can Australians legally get married in Bali?
It's possible but involves Indonesian paperwork, and many couples choose to marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Bali. Our legal guide links to the official sources.
How much does a Bali wedding planner cost?
No Bali planner we checked publishes current fees, so we show planners as "price on request". We're collecting quotes and will publish a range when we have enough.

Do we pay in Australian dollars?
Usually not. Bali vendors mostly quote in rupiah or US dollars, so your cost in Australian dollars moves with the exchange rate. Our figures use 1 Australian dollar = 12,480 rupiah, the mid-market rate (Wise), 14 Oct 2026.
How much does catering cost per person in Bali?
Dinner runs about A$37–74 per guest (IDR 460,000–918,000) in the menus we checked, with A$52 typical. Drinks are usually extra, and resort dinners can cost more.
