July and August bring the meltemi, a strong summer north wind that can affect cliffside ceremonies. Ask your venue about a sheltered backup.

When is it cheapest?

Outside July and August. Some caldera venues set high-season minimums: one 2026–27 price list asks for at least 20 guests in high season and charges €190 for each missing guest. Hotels and venues price their peak weeks highest.

Will cruise crowds be a problem?

Less than before. Santorini now caps cruise visitors at 8,000 a day (down from peaks of about 17,000) and charges cruise passengers a €20 fee in summer (Luxury Travel Advisor, 30 Jun 2026). Oia and Fira are still busiest on cruise days, so check the port schedule for your date.

Is Santorini safe after the 2025 earthquakes?

Tourism is running normally. After the earthquake swarm of early 2025, the authorities restricted access to parts of Fira’s Old Port, banned vehicles on the road down to Ammoudi Bay and closed the Ammoudi–Agios Nikolaos path, until 31 March 2027 (Euronews, 28 Apr 2026). If you planned photos at Ammoudi or the Old Port, check access with your photographer. Follow official Greek civil protection advice before you travel.

How far ahead should we book?

For May–October, most couples book venues 9–18 months ahead, and longer for Saturdays in June and September. Allow 8–12 weeks for civil paperwork (legal guide).
